Butte City

Butte City was the location of a gold discovery in 1850. It drew miners for a short time, who called the area The Butte, Butte City, and Greaserville. By 1851, a few hundred lived in the camp and there were numerous businesses. Unfortunately, the gold at Butte City was short lived and it was abandoned not long thereafter.

The only remnant of Butte City is the old Butte Store, built 1857 by an Italian stonemason. It housed a general store and the post office, and later belonged to a man named Ginocchio.
